Kamancheh maestro Mehdi Bagheri and world-renowned multi-percussionist Greg Ellis have joined together to form the duo Bagheri/Ellis. Each a formidable presence in the pantheon of world music and crossing many genres, Bagheri/Ellis offer a sound that is neither traditional nor modern. Instead, the two longtime friends and collaborators create music in the moment, allowing it to emerge as it happens. Improvised arrangements breaking down musical boundaries let the raw dialogue between kamancheh and percussion roam free. The result is sound ranging from the sublime to the ecstatic while capturing a rare sense of immediacy and depth in the music. Their debut album In the Face of Gravity is an intimate document of their spontaneous creations and the profound musical connection between these two masters of their instruments.
